Australian and New Zealand Addiction Conference — Gold Coast

Alcohol – Other Drugs – Behavioural Addictions, Prevention, Treatment and Recovery

NDS Disability & Diversity Conference (National) — Alice Springs

Pushing the boundaries of disability support

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) promises to transform the lives of people with disability; but it is not yet built. A key test of the NDIS is how well it responds to the diversity of Australians with disability. National Disability Services (NDS) is holding a two-day national conference to explore diversity and its implications for the delivery of supports for people with disability. It will consider the different dimensions of diversity-culture, disability type, gender, age, sexuality and geographic location.

19th Australasian Menopause Society Congress — Canberra

Differing opinions have been published regarding the link between hormone levels and mood disorders. At the 2015 19th AMS Congress in Canberra, the focus will be on ‘Menopause – Mind over Matter’ with topics ranging from how memory works and normal age-related cognitive decline, why women are more at risk of dementia and reducing the risk, HRT and its links with cognition, also androgens and cognitive function. Other topics will pick up on the latest in managing menopause and more, including strategies to improve well-being.

The theme of the 16th International mental health conference is ‘Mental health future for all’, across the broad spectrum of mental disorders including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorders, bipolar, depression and suicide. 13th National Rural Health CONFERENCE 2015 — DARWIN

People places possibilities

This is the most important biennial event on the agenda of those interested in the health and well-being of people in rural and remote areas. The conference will have a strong focus on the social determinants of health, and presenters from sectors including education, employment, Indigenous affairs, community services, housing, transport, agriculture, fishing and mining will have an important place on the program. It will feature research reports, reviews of successful health-related services, arts-and-health presentations and analysis of some of the key policy issues of the day impacting on rural well-being.

  11-14 MAY 2015 Creating futures conference — cairns
Practice, Evidence and Creativity in Tropical and Remote Settings

This is the sixth conference in a series in which the populations of interest are Indigenous peoples from Australia, New Zealand and beyond, the residents of Australia’s neighbouring island nations, and people living with and recovering from mental and/or physical illness or disability in remote and tropical areas. There will be a focus on evidence and innovation in identifying and addressing the social determinants of mental and physical health and wellbeing. The first day will be
held at the Yarrabah Aboriginal community located 60 km from Cairns and will be hosted by Gurriny Yealamucka, the local Aboriginal health service. The following three days will be in central Cairns.

20 FEB 2015 ABORTION IN AUSTRALIA CONFERENCE 2015 — brisbane
Children by Choice presents this one day conference which is targeted towards health and community professionals working with women experiencing unplanned pregnancy and abortion access, and those interested in or working in the field of reproductive health. Guest speakers and specialist comprehensive workshops will provide an opportunity for attendees to further their knowledge on some of recent key developments and ongoing challenges relating to unplanned pregnancy and abortion access.
This conference will be bookended by two special events: a screening of the acclaimed documentary ‘After Tiller’, and a Women’s Health Breakfast.
